Knives out at WC

July 1, 2020 11:05 AM

New Wiltshire Council leader Philip Whitehead has taken the axe to the complex and expensive administration system built up by his predecessor Jane Scott.

In making a bold step in the right direction, Cllr Whitehead has cut the number of Cabinet members from nine to eight, whilst the number of Portfolio carriers has been reduced from 14 to 10.

The system of portfolio carriers was set up by Scott to provide more jobs for the Tories.

Cllr Philip Whitehead said: "These changes also represent a 15% saving in the costs of running the administration, which is prudent given the financial challenges we face because of the COVID-19 pandemic."
