No help with buses for young people

March 7, 2020 11:19 AM

A scrutiny group set up by Wiltshire Council to see if more help could be given to young people to make bus travel more convenient for them has concluded that this is impossible.

The way the industry is set up, and the high cost of doing anything which would be useful, mean that no significant improvements on the current system are available.

The group does though make a list of seven cosmetic recommendations. These are:

1. More advertising.

2. Contactless payment (happening anyway).

3. Consider the needs of young people in a possible future bus strategy.

4. Keep thinking about it.

5. Consider exploring the possibility of some kind of 'youth card' for general use

6. Note these recommendations, including recommendation 6.

7. Keep thinking about it.

The unparaphrased versions of the recommendations, together with the full report, are in the agenda for the Children's Committee on March 10, see supplement.
