Wiltshire Council has submitted a bid for £6m to the Department for Transport to help address traffic congestion in Trowbridge and improve infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists and buses.

If approved, the money will bring a range of improvements to the traffic flow and public transport in the area, including:

  • Getting pedestrians and cyclists out of the way.
  • Reducing delays for bus services.
  • Helping the road system cope with increased demand for car travel from new developments.

The Department for Transport's national pinch point fund invites bids from local authorities for high-impact schemes to help address congestion pinch points. The fund is £150 million in total; £75 million for financial year 2021/22 and £75 million for 2022/23.

It is hoped that an announcement on the allocation of funding will be made later this year.
