Lucifer's lexicon unleashed by LGA

A question for you .... what do all these words or phrases have in common .... 'cautiously welcome', 'predictors of beaconicity', 'strategic priorities', worklessness' and 'under-capacitated? Well these and many others are on the Local Government Association list of banned words released today on the LGA website. Will there be cashable benefits from this tranche of learning outcomes, you may well ask. Or might it be an improvement lever for a more meaningful trialogue with our tenants and residents?

Naturally this website avoids council-speak. Press releases from Wiltshire Council (WC) are carefully weeded of bureaucratic cliche before publication, though the occasional cautious welcome might have slipped through. If you want the unexpurgated morass there are lots of examples on the WC website.

I'd also like to start a campaign to ban the word 'issue', though regrettably many of the council's officers and councillors would be struck dumb if this were to happen.
