The Battle of Bradford Bridge - the result

8.34.00pm GMT Wed 10th Feb 2010

A plan for a footbridge across the River Avon in Bradford has split the town. The Town Council has put forward a plan for a corten steel bridge to angle across the river from near the library to the new development at Kingston Mills. However some Bradfordians opposed the scheme saying the bridge was unattractive and too expensive.

Wiltshire Council's planning committee has now approved the application. At the meeting on Wednesday evening speakers against the bridge described it as ugly and out of place, and feared it would attract vandalism. However supporters saw it as a valuable addition to the town, and the majority of the committee agreed.
