Parkinson's - changing attitudes, changing names

8.17.00am GMT Tue 2nd Mar 2010

In April the Parkinson's Disease Society will become Parkinson's UK. Their hope for the future is to find a cure, and to improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson's. The charity is asking parliamentary candidates to sign up to a three-point pledge to help sufferers.

120,000 people in the UK have the disease. The requests from the Society are relatively modest -

1. Fair access to health and social care for everyone with Parkinson's

2. The right benefits and financial support for those affected

3. Government investment in a cure and better treatments.

These are cost-effective interventions and I've happily signed up to them.
